eSignR was developed by the IT company Glue Software Engineering AG and is the successor of the Open eGov LocalSigner. Glue is part of the Glue Group, was founded in 1993 and currently employs 35 dedicated people in Bern. The Glue Group is divided into several companies and is active in the markets of e-government, public transport, mobile services and apps, and business intelligence.
From Open eGov LocalSigner to eSignR
The Open eGov LocalSigner was developed for the Swiss Confederation and was used successfully for several years. The software, with over 54,000 installations, was also used outside the federal administration as the only solution for legally compliant digital signatures under Swiss law. At the beginning of 2022, further development of the Open eGov LocalSigner was discontinued. Since the disappearance of SuisseID, the electronic signature in Switzerland is mainly offered «in the cloud». For this reason, the Open eGov LocalSigner can no longer be used.
Wir sind vom ursprünglichen Ansatz der LocalSigner-Technologie weiterhin überzeugt, dass vertrauliche Dokumente für den digitalen Signaturvorgang aus Vertraulichkeitsgründen niemals das eigene Gerät verlassen dürfen. Deshalb haben wir uns entschieden, den eSignR, auf Grundlage der LocalSigner-Technologie weiterzuentwickeln.

eSignR carries the label «swiss made software» as well as «swiss hosting». One of the requirements for using the Swiss quality label “swiss hosting” is that data must not leave Swiss servers. The eSignR software is developed exclusively in Switzerland by our specialists at Glue Software Engineering AG. This also allows us to carry the label «swiss made software». Both labels stand for Swiss values such as quality, reliability and precision.
